CWIE Christmas Toy Drive-2014

The 2014 Calgary Women in Energy (CWIE) Christmas Toy Drive was a great success!

Calgary Women in Energy supported the Magic of Christmas in it’s 31st  year of visiting local families, working hard to make it their biggest year yet!

We are extremely proud of All of our members, and wonderful supporters. Without your help and generous donations, we could not have completed this Huge Task.

The Magic of Christmas Volunteers visited just shy of 500 families this year, and thousands of patients in care facilities throughout the city to bring the Christmas spirit into their homes and hearts.

The Magic of Christmas is a not-for-profit charity focused on delivering the Christmas Spirit of loving, caring and sharing to many. The Magic of Christmas works with City of Calgary social services and the Calgary Police Service to make sure Santa doesn’t miss anyone who needs a special visit.

This past Christmas Eve, Calgary Transit buses were loaded with gift donations, and magically transformed into reindeer sleighs. Santa and his elves visited homes and hospital rooms of people who are in despair.  Despair can come in many forms, be it emotional, financial or physical.  They may have had a death in their immediate family, lost a job, gotten a medical diagnoses that has been difficult,  or they are spending Christmas in a care facility away from their loved ones, etc.

We are forever grateful for your kindness and generosity. CWIE Christmas Toy drive 2014 CWIE Christmas Toy drive1 2014 CWIE Christmas Toy drive2 2014

Calgary Women in Energy-SAIT Drilling Simulator

Calgary Women in Energy receive an in-depth introduction to the SAIT drilling simulator, including the opportunity to partake in a hands-on simulation. The Rance Fisher Well-site Production Education Centre houses an on-site service rig containing extensive drilling, service, process, and control equipment. The technical side of the Centre is comprised of oil production facilities, gas production facilities, and common oil and gas control systems.

CWIE members were introduced to this one-of-a-kind drilling simulator, which makes use of advanced software and 3D graphics to create immersive visualizations of downhole drilling dynamics.

Calgary Women in Energy Toy Drive

IMG_2687 IMG_2685 IMG_2684 IMG_2682 IMG_2677The Calgary Women in Energy held their first annual Christmas Toy Drive in support of the Women’s Centre of Calgary.

Many Calgary families live in poverty, and are unable to celebrate Christmas .

In December women were able to come to the Centre and choose gifts for their children.  In a mock toy store layout, women were able to browse shelves stocked by holiday elves (aka volunteers!) and pick out gifts for their kids. When resources are available, women may choose a gift for themselves.

During last year’s toy room, more than 2,500 women and children were served.

Thank you to all of our members who helped support this worthy cause
